Established in June 1992, Nanjing Jiangning Economic & Technological Development Zone started from a development zone operated by the Jiangning County at its own costs; it was designated as a province-level development zone after due approval in 1993; it was changed into a state-level high and new technology industrial park after being approved by the State Science and Technology Committee in 1997; it was awarded the economic examination and approval authority after being approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Jiangsu People's Government in 2002. Now this development zone has become the pilot reforming and opening-up zone, the utilized foreign capitals concentration zone and high and the new technology industries densely-distributed zone in Nanjing area.
