Established on June 18, 1992, Jiangning Development Zone was approved to be a provincial High-Tech Industrial Development Zone in 1993. In 1997, the development zone was approved to set up a National High-Tech Industrial Park with five square kilometers by the National Commission of Science & Technology in the zone. In 2002, the development zone was given the national development zone's approval authority by the Provincial Committee and the Provincial Government. Jiangning Development Zone was upgraded to be the National Economic & Technological Development Zone by State Council on Nov. 11th, 2011.
